Mycenae Gardens are the thread which ties together:
- A Russian empress’s illicit affair
- Geoffrey Chaucer, the medieval poet
- London’s position as a world financial centre
- The National Gallery’s foundation
- A nunnery
- Mad King George III
The land which includes Mycenae Gardens was once owned by knights and nobles, and even the English crown. At the end of the 14th century Westcombe was bought by Gregory Ballard, and the purchase deed was witnessed by Geoffrey Chaucer, celebrated author of the Canterbury Tales.
